The new Depardieu film, Vatel, co-starring Uma Thurman and directed by Roland Joffe, had the honor of being the opening film at this year's Cannes film festival on May 10th.  Depardieu was in Cannes for the grand event.  This page includes photos from Cannes and links to articles about the party and the film.

Here's an interesting quote from a Hollywood Reporter article on Cannes: 
"Despite the presence of his radiant co-star Uma Thurman, it was French icon Gerard Depardieu's manly physique and appetite for pleasure that were repeatedly probed during the "Vatel" press conference Wednesday at the Palais.  . . .  Breathlessly describing Depardieu as one of her country's [Russia's] hottest sex symbols, a female reporter asked the actor if he had been dieting to achieve his perceived-as-peak form. The actor's initial response was to lift his shirt, flashing his famous Gallic belly."  ;-)

Update 6/23:  Found a few more interesting things on the web.  One is a Paris Match online article about Gerard and Carole Bouquet "coming out" for the first time as lovers at Cannes.  If you use babblefish to translate it, it's worth a read.  The second item is from the Gaumont website.  They have a page about the opening of Vatel at Cannes, including video.  Depardieu is in some of the video, though it's pretty fuzzy.
